Last week I attended the 2017 Dallas Auto Show. It was the first official auto show I have ever been to. Its is kind of odd to write that because my dad was a manager a major car dealership in the DFW area when I was kid and he spent most of his career in the car business. Being around new cars was nothing new to me but attending an auto show is.
In addition to my dad being in the car business, my grandfather is a master mechanic. He has owned and operated Vela’s Repair Shop in South Texas for the last 30 years. Safe to say I have been around cars and trucks growing up and I always took their advice when getting a new vehicle.
Now that my dad is out of the car business and my grandfather is retired; I figured I’d do a little research on my own and see what kind of vehicles are on the market now. Being a family of five my main goal was to find a mid size SUV with a third row that didn’t break the bank.
What you’ll see at an Auto Show
Of course you are going to see tons of new cars from every manufacture like Toyota, Mazda, Genesis, Hyundai, Kia, and various others.
Also, you are going to see a few concept cars that manufactures bring out just to show off. These are fun to check out.
You also get to see tons of super awesome and out of this dads price range vehicles!
And you will see some super cool stuff like “The Speedwagon” made completely of LEGOS. I spoke with the rep by this display and she said it took the makers 3 and a half months to put it together. I know for a fact that my kids can destroy it in 30 seconds. Kids amirite?
Also, you get to sit in and get hands on with most of the vehicles.
Why Go To An Auto Show?
If you are in the market for a new vehicle, stopping by an auto show should be on your to-do list. And here’s why:
- Get an overview on what’s new.
- Shop your favorite brand and manufactures without the pressure of salespeople.
- Sit in different types of vehicles like I did.
- Test drive a vehicle from a leading car company.
- Have fun checking out the new cars and trucks.
Ride and Drive
While I was taking in all the cars and trucks under the bight lights inside. I couldn’t wait to actually drive one. Thanks to Mazda I got to test drive the CX-9 which is a midsize SUV with a third row that seats 7. Like I mentioned earlier, being a family of 5 and having a dog, when we travel we need room.
I freaking loved driving the CX-9. It had a smooth ride and since it had a third row it can fit all my family! It didn’t feel huge like I was driving a bus and it handled well. The CX-9came equipped with 360 view of the vehicle while parking and it had a heads up display. I really liked that feature because I didn’t have to take my eyes off the road to see how fast I was going or what I was listening to.
There a few other vehicles that participants could have driven, like the new MX-5, but I wanted to test out a vehicle that I might actually purchase.
That being said, if you do decide to test drive one of the vehicles at an auto show be sure and bring your Drivers License. Also, make sure you don’t have anything to drink beforehand. While signing up to take the test drive they checked to see if I had been drinking. I hadn’t so I got test drive the Mazda CX-9 and enjoyed it.
Earlier in the day I stopped by the Mazda booth and listed to the reps talk about the all new CX-9 and then I finally got to take it for a spin.
Check out the my video recap of the show which included my ride and drive in the new Mazda RX-9.
